Johan started his career as a journalist in 1979 at the independent rock magazine Riff and the Flemish weekly Knack. The next ten years he worked as a producer, reporter and anchor-man for the Flemish public radio and television. He later joined Kredietbank (now KBC), where he was in charge of Internal and External Communication. Subsequently, he moved on to lead and develop the activities of the international communication consultancies Burson-Marsteller Brussels and akkanto (formerly European Communication Strategies) for some 20 years.

As an all-round strategic communication consultant and facilitator, Johan has counselled leading Belgian and international companies, industry associations, business coalitions, public institutions and NGO’s, in Belgium, Europe and abroad, including Africa and China. He has extensive experience in developing multi-country strategies as well as managing international communication teams. Johan specialises in issues and reputation management, message development, crisis communication and communication training and coaching at CEO and Board level.

Finally, through his passion for music and film and his consultancy work for EMI, Universal Music, the “0110 Concerts for tolerance, against racism, extremism and gratuitous violence” and the “Belgavox Concerts”, Johan has also developed specific skills in the training and coaching of celebrities.

A Belgian national, Johan is fluent in Dutch, French and English and has a solid working knowledge of German. He has a degree in Medicine, Communication and European Law.
